We are certified counsellors as well as qualified educators with teaching and training experience. While we offer accredited training courses (such as Mental Health First Aid) and pre-developed courses (such as those listed below), we can also personalise workshops to meet the needs of your workplace or community group. Our workshops are designed to combine evidence-based resources with real stories (lived experience) and experiential learning in a safe, supportive setting. After an initial consultation and brief needs analysis, we deliver collaborative learning experiences on a range of mental heath-related topics. Download Workshop Flyer

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID (STANDARD COURSE)
The MHFA Standard course is a 12-hour workshop that helps to increase participants’ mental health literacy. It is offered as an in-person course (facilitated over two or four days) and teaches participants the skills to assist people who have a developing, or worsening, mental health problem. Participants learn how to respond during a mental health crisis until professional help arrives or the crisis is resolved. This course results in formal accreditation with Mental Health First Aid Australia for two years.
Mental health problems covered include: depression, anxiety, psychosis and substance use problems. Crisis situations covered include: suicidal thoughts and behaviours, non-suicidal self-injury, panic attacks, traumatic events, severe effects of drugs and alcohol abuse, severe psychotic states and aggressive behaviours.
The MHFA standard course is also available as a fully online qualification in the form of the Blended Online MHFA Community course.

MHFA FOR NON-SUICIDAL SELF INJURY (NSSI)
The MHFA for NSSI course is a 4-hour face-to-face course that teaches participants the skills to engage with a person who is self-injuring. NSSI is behaviour used as a coping strategy and is not intended to result in death. It is particularly common amongst adolescents but can affect people of all ages. Participants will learn: why people engage in self-injury, how to talk to someone about their injury, how to help the person stay safe, how to connect someone to appropriate professional help, and how to assess for suicidal thoughts and behaviours.
We are also accredited to deliver other official Mental Health First Aid courses, including Mental Health First Aid for Tertiary Students (also offered as a fully online option) and Online Mental Health First Aid for Workplaces. These courses are based on the standard course but are modified for specific groups. Visit the MHFA website or contact us for more information.

This all contributes to a more mentally-healthy workplace or community. MHCP offers the following pre-developed workshops:
